Koné is a commune in the
North Province . Koné is the provincial seat of the North Province. Besides Koné as the largest district are Koniambo and Tiaoué as the smallest settlements of the municipality. Ten different tribes live in the municipality of Koné. Koné is due to the humid west coast of the largest island of New Caledonia
Grande Terre and also includes Île Pingiane an off the coast island. Inland, the town is dominated by a mountain range, which rises to 1041 m altitude. The highest point of the municipality is located at 1014 m near the peak of Atheu. Koné has a small airport which is located approximately 2 km away from city center.
The town hall was inaugurated at the end of 2006. In its interior frescoes and sculptures by local artist Kiki Poma are noteworthy. Not far away is a memorial to the New Caledonians from Koné and the surrounding area, who gave their lives for France during the First and Second World War.

The conspicuous Catholic Church with its distinctive triangular shape and a pediment rider instead of a church bell tower was inaugurated in 1954, it goes back to a mission station founded in 1891.
The Open Air Museum and Cultural Centre
Centre culturel provincial de Koohnée , which consists of a 1880 stately country house and several huts built in traditional style of different tribes, is located approximately 3 km southeast of the city center near the river Koné. It also serves as a location for theatrical performances, film screenings and concerts.
