Berlin has a lot of culinary delights to offer. The traditional Berlin dishes are distinguished by the fact that they are more hardy and hearty to give hard-working workers the necessary calories back. It looks as if some Berliners eat in anticipation of hard work upfront. The little dishes for inbetween got a truly national and international boast.

Among the leaders is the
Currywurst (sausage with curry tomato sauce) with Pommes Frites (french fries), of course. After a long night in Berlin’s bars and clubs party people meet at
Curry36 , the cult meeting point, where one get the
Currywurst till 4:00 a.m. – and guaranteed fresh because of the never-ending stream of customers.
Due to its popularity, one finds the
Currywurst also on the menus of the best restaurants in town, like the Restaurant
Quarrè at the Hotel Adlon and occasionally in the
Margaux . Amazingly, the first Currywurst restaurant
Curry opened in Dusseldorf in the South West of Germany.
Typical dishes are
Bulette (meat balls) with potato salad or as a “Walking Bulette” in bread,
Erbsensuppe mit Speck (pea soup) and of course the
Berliner (pastry). Not always matching, but always a good idea: The Molle and
Berliner Weisse , both beers.
