Differdange is a commune with town status in south-western Luxembourg, 17 miles (27 km) west from the country’s capital. It lies near the borders with Belgium and France and it is located in the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette. With a population of around 26,000, Differdange is the country’s third largest city. It is also the main town of the commune, and other towns within the commune include Lasauvage, Niederkorn, and Oberkorn. Differdange is an industrial town that was home to much of Luxembourg’s steel production, much of its development occurred during its heyday. Today, Differdange still remains an important industrial center, with ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel producer, retaining an important steel factory in the town.   read more…

Luxembourg (Luxembourgish: Lëtzebuerg, French: Luxembourg; German: Luxemburg), officially the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, is a landlocked country in Western Europe. It is bordered by Belgium to the west and north, Germany to the east, and France to the south. Its capital, Luxembourg City, is one of the four official capitals of the European Union (together with Brussels, Frankfurt, and Strasbourg) and the seat of the Court of Justice of the European Union, the highest judicial authority in the EU. Its culture, people, and languages are highly intertwined with its neighbours, making it essentially a mixture of French and German cultures, as evident by the nation’s three official languages: French, German, and the national language of Luxembourgish. The repeated invasions by Germany, especially in World War II, resulted in the country’s strong will for mediation between France and Germany and, among other things, led to the foundation of the European Union.   read more…

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay (also known as the Esplanade Theatres or simply The Esplanade) is a performing arts centre located in Downtown Core near the mouth of the Singapore River. Named after the nearby Esplanade Park, it consists of a concert hall which seats about 1,600 and a theatre with a capacity of about 2,000 for the performing arts. Other than performing venues, the Esplanade also contains meeting venues, as well as other lifestyle and arts related services. The concert hall and theatre are connected to the main concourse via a foyer, while the Esplanade Mall is accessible through an entry point located between these 2 halls.   read more…

Boulazac Isle Manoire has been a French commune nouvelle in the Dordogne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region with a population of 10,600 since January 1, 2016. The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement Périgeux and the canton of Isle-Manoire. It emerged from the fusion of Atur, Boulazac and Saint-Laurent-sur-Manoire. Saint-Astier is a small town and a French municipality with 5,500 inhabitants in the Dordogne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The municipality consists of the main town as well as a few hamlets (hameaux) and individual farmsteads (fermes). The continued population growth of the small town is largely due to immigration from the surrounding rural areas as a result of the increasing mechanization of agriculture and the abandonment of smallholder farms.   read more…

Dordogne is a department in Southwestern France, with its prefecture in Périgueux. The department is located in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine between the Loire Valley and the Pyrenees and is named after the river Dordogne that runs through it. It corresponds roughly with the historically and culinary significant ancient county of Périgord. It had a population of 416,909 in 2013. The Dordogne department is rich in archaeological sites (Dolmens of Cantegrel, Dolmens Peyre Levade) and caves as well as rock shelter with petroglyphs, rock paintings and sculptures from the Stone Age, troglodytic buildings and villages, as well as other natural caves that are open to the public. Attractions are also some castles, numerous chateaus (list of castles and chateaus in the Dordogne) and various abbeys.   read more…
