The Statue of Liberty (
Liberty Enlightening the World) is a colossal
neoclassical sculpture on
Liberty Island in
New York Harbor in
New York, in the
United States. The copper statue, a gift from the people of
France to the people of the United States, was designed by French sculptor
Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by
Gustave Eiffel. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.

New York Harbor, part of the
Port of New York and New Jersey, is at the mouth of the
Hudson River where it empties into
New York Bay. It is one of the largest natural harbors in the world. Although the
United States Board on Geographic Names does not use the term,
New York Harbor has important historical, governmental, commercial, and ecological usages.
