List auf Sylt is the northernmost municipality in Germany, close to Denmark. List was originally a Danish settlement. It was first mentioned in 1292 (Lystum). The original village was destroyed by the great flood of 1364. The settlement was rebuilt further east from the previous location. In the mid-15th century, a church named St. Jürgen was mentioned. In a treaty of 1460, Schleswig and Holstein were linked to the Danish crown, but List remained part of the royal enclaves, small areas of the Kingdom of Denmark situated within the Duchy of Schleswig, but directly controlled by the Danish king.   read more…

The Sylt Royal Oyster is a breed that is reared in aquaculture in the Blidselbucht in the Lister Wadden Sea within three years. The Sylter Royal is the only oyster, which is produced in Germany.   read more…

Sylt has been established as a holiday retreat for the German financial aristocracy during the 70s and 80s, were they created permanent residences or at least bought in on a high scale. Especially in the summer months the A to Z celebrity-density peak, but also outside the main holiday season usually much value is given to the “see and be seen” game. Major events are arising if the island is surrounded by a swarm of private aircrafts to land on the island airport.   read more…
