Trouville-sur-Mer, commonly referred to as Trouville, is a commune in the Calvados department in the Lower Normandy region region in northwestern France with 5,000 inhabitants. The town’s inhabitants are called Trouvillais. The village of fishermen is a popular tourist destination in Normandy, approximately 200 km north west of Paris.

Trouville-sur-Mer borders Deauville, which is located on the opposite side of the River Touques. The river flows into the English Channel between both communes. The Port of Trouville-sur-Mer and Port of Deauville are both situated on the river mouth.

Other than Deauville, which is a planned city, designed by architect Brunet in 1859, Trouville-sur-Mer is a historically grown fishing port town. To comfort tourists from the UK a pier for the ferry to Le Havre was built. Today the pier is no longer given.

While Deauville became a popular destination right from the beginning of it’s construction, particular because of horse and ship races, and a direct train connection to Paris, Trouville-sur-Mer became popular in the late 19th century, after Eugène Cornuché opened the famous Trouville Casino. Since then the village’s tourist business grew constantly. A number of impressive buildings in the seaside resort architecture style of that time are still in use today.
