Podgorica (lit. “under the small hill”) is the capital and largest city of Montenegro. When founded (before the 11th century), the town was called Birziminium. In the Middle Ages, it was known as Ribnica. The name Podgorica was used from 1326. From 1946 to 1992, the city was named Titograd in honour of Josip Broz Tito, the former President of Yugoslavia. Podgorica is not only the administrative centre of Montenegro but also its main economic engine. Most of Montenegro’s industrial, financial, and commercial base is in Podgorica.   read more…

Bridgetown is the capital and largest city of the nation of Barbados. Formerly, the Town of Saint Michael, the Greater Bridgetown area is located within the parish of Saint Michael. Bridgetown is sometimes locally referred to as “The City”, but the most common reference is simply “Town”. The Bridgetown port, found along Carlisle Bay lies on the southwestern coast of the island. Parts of the Greater Bridgetown area (as roughly defined by the Ring Road Bypass or more commonly known as the ABC Highway), sit close to the borders of the neighbouring parishes Christ Church and St. James. The Grantley Adams International Airport for Barbados, is located 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) southeast of Bridgetown city centre, and has daily flights to major cities in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and the Caribbean.   read more…

Tivat is a coastal town in southwest Montenegro, located in the Bay of Kotor. Tivat is the centre of Tivat Municipality, which is the smallest municipality by area in Montenegro. The town has a population of 10,000, the municipality has 14,000 inhabitants. Already a popular tourist resort, Tivat is set to become a nautical tourism centre for the southern Adriatic. Tivat Airport is 3 km (1.9 mi) away. This is the biggest airport in Montenegro, although Podgorica Airport is more modern.   read more…

Nikšić is the second largest city of Montenegro, with a total population of 57,000, located in the west of the country, in the centre of the spacious Nikšić field at the foot of Mount Trebjesa. It is the center of Nikšić Municipality (Population of 75,000), which is the largest municipality by area and second most inhabited after Podgorica. It is an important industrial, cultural, and educational center. Although mostly perceived as an industrial center, Nikšić is also a city of rich cultural heritage. The most significant cultural institution in the city is Centar Za Kulturu (Cultural Center), which incorporates the city’s major public cultural establishments.   read more…

Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city of Argentina, and the second-largest metropolitan area in South America. It is located on the western shore of the estuary of the Río de la Plata, on the continent’s southeastern coast. The Greater Buenos Aires conurbation, which also includes several Buenos Aires Province districts, constitutes the third-largest conurbation in Latin America, with a population of around fifteen and a half million.   read more…

Pljevlja is a town and the center of Pljevlja Municipality located in the northern part of Montenegro. The city lies at an altitude of 770 m (2,530 ft). In the Middle Ages, Pljevlja had been a crossroad of the important commercial roads and cultural streams, with important roads connecting the littoral with the Balkan interior.   read more…

Its capital and largest city is Podgorica, while Cetinje is designated as the Prijestonica, meaning the former Royal Capital City. Montenegro is a candidate to join the European Union and NATO. Fjällbacka is a locality situated in Tanum Municipality, Västra Götaland County in Sweden with 860 inhabitants. Fjällbacka is mostly known as a summer tourist resort, with a long history. Saintes is a commune and historic town in southwestern France, in the Charente-Maritime department of which it is a sub-prefecture, in Poitou-Charente. Its inhabitants are called Saintaises and Saintais. Saintes is the second largest city in Charente-Maritime, with 26,000 inhabitants in 2008. Its immediate surrounds form the second most populous metropolitan area in the department, with 57,000 inhabitants, the majority of which is fertile, productive fields; a significant minority for the region remains forest, its natural state.   read more…
