Modular prefab builder LivingHomes just completed their latest project – a 3 unit multifamily residence in Los Altos, California. The homes, which were designed by Ray Kappe, AIA, should be the first LEED Platinum project in the area. LivingHomes builds steel and wood-framed prefab homes with a strong focus on healthy and low impact materials. Their latest project is Kappe’s first multi-family rental with 2 three bedroom homes and an affordable one bedroom unit.

The Santa Monica-based company, LivingHomes, contracted Ray Kappe and Kieran Timberlake to design their prefabulous homes. The Los Altos project is Kappe’s first multi-family residence and includes a 1,594 sq ft LivingHome with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and a 380 sq ft private deck, a 540 sq ft studio LivingHome that includes 1 bedroom and 1 bath, and a 1,685 sq ft LivingHome with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and a 186 sq ft private deck. The 1 bed, 1 bath unit is ADA-adaptable and designed as an affordable housing unit. Each residence features an open floor plan, a private garden and patio, and an extremely comprehensive environmental program.

Eight modular units, constructed by Irontown homes, make up this modern, yet warm California residence based on Kappe’s RK4.1 design. Installation of the modules took place back in November of 2010. As with all LivingHomes, this one also features non-toxic and environmentally friendly materials. The exterior features shading devices and FSC certified cedar siding. LEED Platinum certification is expected sometime soon, making this the first project of its kind in the area.
