Salalah, is the capital and seat of the
wali (governor) of the southern
Omani province of
Dhofar . Its population is at around 200,000.
Salalah is the second largest city in the Sultanate of Oman, and the largest city in the Dhofar Province. Salalah is the birthplace of the Sultan, Qaboos bin Said al Said . Salalah attracts lots of people from other parts of Oman and GCC during the Khareef season, which starts from July to September. The climate of the region and the monsoon allows the city to grow some vegetables and fruits like coconut.

The Port of Salalah is the largest port in Oman. It is centrally located at the crossroads of trade between Asia and Europe.With over 2.5 billion consumers, it serves the markets of East Africa, the Red Sea, the Indian Subcontinent and the Arabian/Persian Gulf on its doorstep. Port of Salalah is a deepwater ports in Oman which was formerly known as Raysut Harbour or Mina’ Raysut or Port Raysut. It can accommodate large vessels up to 18m draft. It is the main Container Tran-shipment Terminal of the region. This port is operated and managed by Salalah Port Services Company (S.A.O.G.). The port also welcomes cruise liners & luxury ships. It is also the largest private employer in the Dhofar region.
Salalah is one of probably only two places in the Arabian peninsula (besides Yemen) that experiences a monsoon season, which is called Khareef and lasts from July to September. Khareef means “autumn” in Arabic but it refers to monsoon when describing Salalah. During this time, the brown landscape of Salalah and its surroundings is completely transformed to a beautiful and lush green, and locals and tourists alike flock to Salalah.
