The State Opera (Czech: Státní opera) is an opera house in Prague, Czech Republic. It is part of the National Theatre of the Czech Republic, founded by Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic in 1992. The theatre itself originally opened in 1888 as the New German Theatre and from 1949 to 1989 it was known as the Smetana Theatre. More recently it was renamed the Prague State Opera. Germknödel is a sweet, fluffy, yeast dough dumpling (Knödel), filled with spiced plum jam, topped with a mix of poppy seeds and sugar, and served with melted butter. At roughly 80,550 m² it is one of the largest squares in the world and was the largest town square of the medievalEurope. Founded in 1348 as the main square of the New Town by Charles IV, it was known as Dobyt?í trh (Cattle Market) from the 15th century and finally named after its founder in 1848. Wenceslas Square (Czech: Václavské nám?stí; German: Wenzelsplatz) is one of the main city squares and the centre of the business and cultural communities in the New Town of Prague, Czech Republic. Many historical events occurred there, and it is a traditional setting for demonstrations, celebrations, and other public gatherings. It is also the place with the busiest pedestrian traffic in the whole country. The square is named after Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia. European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI) is a project to build a ground-based integrated European air defense system which includes anti-ballistic missile capability. As of July 2023, nineteen European states participate in the initiative.
