Phuket is a city in the southeast of Phuket Island, Thailand, and the capital of Phuket province. As of 2024 the city municipality had a population of 71,284 and an urban population of 252,515 in the entire district of Amphoe Mueang. When considering the broader metropolitan area, the population is approximately 430,000. Phuket is 862 km (535.6 mi) south of Bangkok.   read more…

The Eastern & Oriental Express is a luxury cruise train that carries passengers between Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. The train is operated by Belmond Limited. As of 2024, only two seasonal routes are operated between Singapore and Malaysia. Fares on the Singapore to Malaysia train in 2024 (four days, three nights) start at US$3,140. The Chatuchak Weekend Market (Thai: Talatnat Chatuchak), on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road, Chatuchak, Bangkok, is the largest market in Thailand. Also known as JJ Market, it has more than 15,000 stalls and 11,505 vendors (2019), divided into 27 sections. Tom kha kai, tom kha gai, or Thai coconut soup (lit. ‘chicken galangal soup’) is a spicy and sour hot soup with coconut milk in Thai cuisine. Tom kha is a Thai soup that originated around 1890 and was first recorded in a Thai recipe book. The earliest recorded version of the soup was called Tom kha pet, and it featured duck and young galangal in a coconut milk-based curry.   read more…

Si Racha is a subdistrict and town in Thailand on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 120 km southeast of Bangkok in Si Racha district, Chonburi province. Si Racha is in the industrial Eastern Seaboard zone, along with Pattaya, Laem Chabang, and Chonburi. Tarutao National Park consists of 51 islands in the Strait of Malacca, off the coast of Satun Province of southern Thailand. The Tarutao National Park consists of two island groups: Tarutao and Adang-Rawi, which are scattered from 20 to 70 kilometres’ distance from the south-westernmost point of mainland Thailand. The park covers an area of 1,490 square kilometres (1,260 ocean, 230 island). The southernmost end of the park lies on the border with Malaysia, just north of Langkawi. Tarutao became Thailand’s second marine national park on 19 April 1974. The coastal Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park had been designated in 1966.   read more…

The Grand Palace is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam (and later Thailand) since 1782. The king, his court, and his royal government were based on the grounds of the palace until 1925. King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), resided at the Chitralada Royal Villa and his successor King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) at the Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall, both in the Dusit Palace, but the Grand Palace is still used for official events. Several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year. The palace is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Thailand.   read more…
