HSB Turning Torso is the tallest skyscraper in Sweden and the Nordic countries, situated in Malmö, located on the Swedish side of the Öresund strait. Upon completion, it was the tallest building in Scandinavia. It is presently the third tallest residential building in Europe, after the 264‑metre (866 ft) Triumph Palace in Moscow and the 212‑metre Sky Tower in Wrocław. A similar, taller skyscraper featuring a 90° twist is the Infinity Tower, currently under construction in Dubai. Prior to the construction of Turning Torso, the 86‑metre (282 ft) Kronprinsen had been the city’s tallest building. It was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and officially opened on 27 August 2005. The tower reaches a height of 190 metres (623 feet) with 54 stories.   read more…

Växjö is a city and the seat of Växjö Municipality, Kronoberg County, with 60,887 inhabitants. It is the administrative, cultural and industrial centre of Kronoberg County. The town is home to Linnaeus University. Växjö houses Sweden’s National Glass Museum and claims to be the capital of the Kingdom of Crystal as well as of the “Kingdom of Furniture”.   read more…

Uppsala is the capital of Uppsala County and the fourth largest city of Sweden with 140,454 inhabitants. Located 67 km north of the capital, Stockholm, it is also the seat of the Uppsala Municipality. Since 1164, Uppsala has been the ecclesiastical centre of Sweden, being the seat of the Archbishop of the Church of Sweden. Stena Line is a major unit of Stena AB, itself a part of the Stena Sphere, a grouping of Stena AB, Stena Metall AB and Stena Sessan AB. Over the past decade, Malmö has undergone a most dramatic post-industrial transformation. This cosmopolitan city has “reclaimed” the seafront, where entire new city districts full of interesting modern architecture and bustling street life have been constructed. Of course, another radical change has been the mighty Öresund Bridge, opened in 2000, which connects Malmö with Denmark’s capital Copenhagen, just twenty minutes away. The region now forms a single metropolitan area; one of the most expansive, exciting and energetic in Northern Europe.   read more…
