Central Universal Department Store Kyiv (Ukrainian: TSUM Kyiv is Ukraine’s one and only department store of the classical format. It is located at the intersection of Bohdan Khmelnytsky and Khreshchatyk streets in the heart of Kyiv. The department store’s building in the Art Deco style was erected from 1936 to 1939. The fish market in the Old Port of Marseille is a small fish market made up of around ten stands located in the middle of the Quai de la Fraternité, at the exit of the “Vieux-Port” stop of the M1 metro line. Since Marseille-Provence 2013 European Capital of Culture, the fish market is partially covered by the Ombrière du Vieux-Port de Marseille, an immense mirror ceiling reflecting the activity of the quay.   read more…

Europa Passage is a large shopping mall in the Altstadt quarter of Hamburg, Germany, located between the streets of Ballindamm/Jungfernstieg and Mönckebergstraße near the lake of Binnenalster. It was opened on 5 October 2006. Within the 5-level mall 120 shops and 27 catering outlets can be found on an overall length of around 160 metres and a space of 30,000 square metres. Karl Johans gate is the main street of the city of Oslo, Norway. The street was named in honor of King Charles III John, who was also King of Sweden as Charles XIV John. Karl Johans gate is a composite of several older streets that used to be separate thoroughfares. The eastern section was part of Christian IV’s original city near the ramparts surrounding the city. When the ramparts were removed to make way for Oslo Cathedral, three separate sections eventually became Østre Gade.   read more…

Graben in Vienna

The Graben is one of the most famous squares in Vienna‘s first district, the city center. It begins at Stock-im-Eisen-Platz next to the Palais Equitable, and ends at the junction of Kohlmarkt and Tuchlauben. Another street in the first district is called Tiefer Graben (deep ditch). It is crossed by Wipplinger Straße by means of the Hohe Brücke, a bridge about 10 meters (33 ft) above street level. Today the Graben is one of the most important promenades and shopping streets in Vienna.   read more…
