Sanremo or San Remo is a city with about 57,000 inhabitants on the Mediterranean coast of western Liguria in north-western Italy. Founded in Roman times, the city is best known as a tourist destination on the Italian Riviera. It hosts numerous cultural events, such as the Sanremo Music Festival and the Milan – San Remo cycling classic. The city is widely accepted as the origin of the five-card stud variant telesina. The closest airport to Sanremo is in France, the Côte d’Azur International Airport in Nice, 75 minutes away by car or train.   read more…

The Costa Smeralda (English: Emerald Coast) is a coastal area and tourist destination in northern Sardinia, 55 km (34 mi) long and covering more than 30 km2 (12 sq mi). With white sand beaches, a golf club, private jet and helicopter service, and hotels costing up to US$2,000-3,000 per night in the peak season, the area has drawn celebrities, business leaders and other affluent visitors.   read more…

Cervia is a town and comune (municipality) in the province of Ravenna (Emilia-Romagna), central Italy, with a population of about 28,000. Originally called Ficocle, it was probably of Greek origin and was located midway from current Cervia and Ravenna. It is known that this originary settlement was destroyed in 709 by patrician Theodore for its alliance with Ravenna against the loyal Byzantines.   read more…

Brescello is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Reggio Emilia in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 80 km northwest of Bologna and about 25 km northwest of Reggio Emilia. It has 5,504 inhabitants. Castelmezzano is a town and comune in the province of Potenza, in the Southern Italian region of Basilicata. The origins of Castelmezzano date to approximately between the 6th and 5th centuries BC, when Greek settlers in the valley of penetrarono Basento and founded a town called Maudoro, meaning roughly the world of gold. In the 10th century AD, the Saracen invasions forced the local population to find a new location. It is said that during the exodus, a pastor called Paolino discovered a place to move, formed by rocks from the steep peaks which could repel the invaders by means of rolling stone boulders on to the invaders.   read more…
