She was built as an ocean liner for the German shipping company Hamburg Süd. They used the ship to carry German emigrants to South America, and as a cruise ship. The custom was introduced in Hamburg during the Reformation and has been practiced in the Michel, as the Michaelis Church in Hamburg is called, for more than 300 years. Jacob is a 5-star hotel in Hamburg-Nienstedten. It is located at Elbchaussee 401-403 on the banks of the Elbe with a wide view of ships coming and going on both sides. The history of the hotel property goes back to 1625. There was talk of a hotel from the end of the 19th century. Famous guests at that time included Carl Laeisz, Salomon Heine, Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm and Chancellor Wilhelm Cuno. In 1902, the painter Max Liebermann stayed at the hotel for a longer period of time and painted views of the (already then) famous Lindenterrasse. Today, more than 500 original works by painters and graphic artists of the 19th and 20th centuries can be viewed throughout the Hotel Louis C. Jacob. Until 2020, the Hotel Louis C.
