commune in the

Guadeloupe. It is the second largest commune of Guadeloupe, in terms of area, after
Petit-Bourg. Sainte-Rose lies on the coast of the island of
Basse-Terre.

Basse-Terre is the western and larger of the two main islands of the
French overseas department of
Guadeloupe in the
Caribbean. The capital of Guadeloupe, also called
Basse-Terre, is located on the island. The eastern main island is called
Grande-Terre. As
Saint Marie and
Honoré, Basse-Terre and the town of
Deshaies in the northwest of the island have been the main filming and setting locations for the British-French
dramedy television series Death in Paradise since 2011.

Guadeloupe is a
Caribbean island located in the
Leeward Islands, in the
Lesser Antilles, with a land area of 1,628 square kilometres (629 sq. mi) and a population of 400,000. It is an
overseas region of France, consisting of a single overseas department. Its departmental code is “971”. As the other overseas departments, Guadeloupe is also an integral part of the Republic. Besides Guadeloupe island, the
smaller islands of
Marie-Galante,
La Désirade, and the
Îles des Saintes are included in Guadeloupe.
