The University of Toronto (UToronto or U of T) is a publicresearch university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, located on the grounds that surround Queen’s Park. It was founded by royal charter in 1827 as King’s College, the first institution of higher learning in Upper Canada. Originally controlled by the Church of England, the university assumed its present name in 1850 upon becoming a secular institution. As a collegiate university, it comprises eleven colleges each with substantial autonomy on financial and institutional affairs and significant differences in character and history. New York University (NYU) is a privateresearch university based in New York City. Founded in 1831 by Albert Gallatin as an institution to “admit based upon merit rather than birthright or social class”, NYU’s historical campus is in Greenwich Village. The core of NYU consists of buildings that surround Washington Square Park. As of fall 2019, the university has a total of 51,848 enrolled students, including 26,733 undergraduate students and 25,115 graduate students.
