The Orthodox Synagogue in
Prešov , an eastern
Slovak city in the
Prešov District , was built in 1897/98. The
synagogue at Okružná Street 32 ??is a protected
cultural monument . It is located in a complex in the city center that also includes the former
Klaus Synagogue , the former rabbi’s house, a former
yeshiva , a former slaughterhouse, a former
kosher butcher shop, and the former administrator’s residence.
The synagogue building was constructed by the construction company Kolá?ek and Wirth. The building’s façade is articulated by narrow windows. The interior preserves the wall paintings in the Neo-Romanesque –Oriental round-arch style , which were restored in the 1990s. On the eastern side is the Torah shrine , a work by the sculptor Bascó from Košice.
