Lapalisse is a
French commune with 3,137 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2021) in the
Allier department in the
Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It is part of the
arrondissement of Vichy and the seat of the
Pays de Lapalisse municipal association. The municipality is located on the
Besbre , about 20 kilometers northeast of
Vichy . The townscape is dominated by Lapalisse Castle.
Lapalisse is located on the N7 national road , which now bypasses the development to the southwest. Originally it ran through the town from the west and turned south after the bridge over the Besbre. The old route is now called the D707. This connection from Paris to the French Riviera was called the “Route bleue” from 1933 onwards. The departmental roads D7, D48, D124, D208, D480, D907 and D990a also start in Lapalisse.
