What looks like a somewhat bizarre fashion show is actually the Carnevale di Venezia with its over 900 years old history. Today however, is almost exclusively only for the entertainment of the countless tourists from all over the world and takes place in the historic city centre.

Venice, the once richest city in the world, has a lot more to offer. Besides the numerous Palazzi (palaces), the St. Mark’s Square, the numerous churches and the Rialto area, there is the Arsenal, where there was the first mass production ever of warships with standardized parts. After so much culture, architecture and history, the gondolas are perfect for a relaxing ride through the canals, or to take a boat or ferry for a ride through the lagoon or you can discover the city away from the tourist streams. Visit the Venice Travel Blog to plan your trip.

Either way, Venice is always worth a visit. To ensure that this remains for a long time the City is currently working under high pressure on the Mose project. 78 swimming flaps will protect Venice from destructive flood waters in the future. They are installed in the three entrances of the lagoon to the Adriatic Sea. They are held by giant underwater structures, which is are built into the sea floor. In 2013 Mose will be set in operation.
