Named after the Weißenhaus estate, this seaside resort on the Baltic Sea lies about five kilometers from Oldenburg in Holstein on the Hohwacht Bay and the northern coast of the Wagrien peninsula. Tom yum kung, or Tom yum goong, (Thai: tom yam kung) is the Thai spicy and sour shrimp soup—a variant of Tom yum, combined with many of Thailand’s key herbal and seasoning ingredients, often served with a side of steamed rice, sometimes with a dollop of chili paste and a splash of lime juice, enhancing its spicy and tangy profile. Presently, there are two profiles of Tom yum kung recipes: Tom yum kung nam khon—a creamy broth with mellow and smooth flavor, and Tom yum kung nam sai—a clear broth with a stronger flavor.   read more…

The National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide, formerly known as the Memorial in Commemoration of the Holodomor-Genocide in Ukraine, is Ukraine‘s national museum and a centre devoted to the victims of the Holodomor of 1932–1933, a man-made famine that killed millions in Ukraine. The museum was opened on the day of the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor in 2008. It gained the status of a national museum in 2010. The museum is located on the Pechersk Hills on the right bank of the Dnieper River in Kyiv, adjacent to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.   read more…

A bistro or bistrot, in its original Parisian form, is a small restaurant serving moderately priced, simple meals in a modest setting. In a 2007 survey of national cuisines, a bistro is characterised as typically:

a neighborhood restaurant where one can partake of French home cooking, typically robust, earthy dishes such as cassoulet …. Bistros are not temples of haute cuisine, but places for affordable and simple country food.

Almadraba (a Spanish word coming from Andalusian Arabic: al-maḍraba, lit.: ‘the place to strike’; in Portuguese: almadrava) is an elaborate and ancient technique for trapping and catching Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus). This fishing method is over 3,000 years old and evolved from a natural process: The principle of the almadraba is based on the fact that tuna move along the same routes in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean: In spring, they migrate from the nutrient-rich, cold waters of the Atlantic, carrying fat reserves, through the Strait of Gibraltar into the warmer Mediterranean to spawn. And in autumn, the young fish begin their return journey north. For fishermen, this was once one of the few opportunities to catch tuna themselves. From this practice, a tradition developed that continues to this day.   read more…

Kirstenbosch is a botanical garden nestled at the eastern foot of Table Mountain in Cape Town. The garden is one of 10 National Botanical Gardens covering five of South Africa‘s six different biomes and administered by the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI).
