Mercury City Tower is the
tallest skyscraper in Europe , currently under completion in the
Moscow International Business Center of
Moscow .
Construction started in late 2005 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2012. Initially planned to stand at 332 m (1,089 ft) with 70 floors, and 5 levels underground, the tower’s top was modified during construction on 23 July 2012 in order to reach 75 floors and to culminate at 338.82 m (1,111.6 ft) as confirmed on 10 August 2012. It topped out on 1 November 2012 and is expected to be inaugurated in the first quarter of 2013.

As of May 2011, with the completion of the 53rd floor, the developer announced that Mercury City Tower had reached 230 m (750 ft) above earth level, with over half of the external walls covered in copper coloured cladding. The construction exceeded the 301.6 m (990 ft) of
City of Capitals tower , also in Moscow, on 17 January 2012. On 25 July 2012, the 75th level was under construction. The tower was initially expected to be completed in late 2012.
The Shard in
London has given its title after only a few months to the Mercury City Tower, which in turn will lose its title as early as 2013 to the east tower of
Federation Tower (360 meters high), but it remains in the immediate neighborhood. In 2014 the title might go to St. Petersburg, where
Gazprom is planing its new headquarters with a height of 400 meters.
