Al Hamra Tower in Kuwait City

The Al Hamra Tower is a skyscraper in Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait. The construction of the comprehensive 77 level building began in 2005 and was conducted by the firm Turner Construction. The final height of the building of 413 meters was reached on July 15th 2010, making the tower on of the tallest buildings in the world. At the same time it has replaced the 371-meter high TV tower Liberation as the tallest structure in Kuwait. The Al Hamra Tower has surpassed the Arraya Tower (300 meters) as the highest skyscraper in the country. The works were finished in the fall of 2011, later than originally planned. At the start of construction, it was still assumed that the structure would be ready for occupancy at the end of 2010. However, this date could not be maintained, even if the construction work proceeded without any major incidents. At the foot of the tower there is a shopping center.   read more…

Ski Dubai is an indoor ski resort with 22,500 square meters of indoor ski area. It is a part of the Mall of the Emirates, one of the largest shopping malls in the world, located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Mall of the Emirates is a shopping mall in Dubai. Developed and owned by Majid al-Futtaim Properties, it opened in November 2005 and is located at interchange four on Sheikh Zayed road. The multi-level shopping mall currently features more than 630 retail outlets, 7900 parking spaces, over 100 restaurants & Cafes, 80 luxury stores and 250 flagship stores. It has a total gross leasable area of 255,489 square meters. It also hosts family leisure activities including Ski Dubai (the Middle East’s first indoor ski resort and snow park), the 500-seat capacity Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre and Magic planet, one of the largest indoor family entertainment centres in Dubai. On November 2005, it was named the World’s Leading New Shopping Mall at the World Travel Awards in London.   read more…

Business Bay is a central business district under construction in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The project features numerous skyscrapers located in an area where Dubai Creek will be dredged and extended. Business Bay will have upwards of 240 buildings, comprising commercial and residential developments. The infrastructure of Business Bay has been completed in 2008, and the entire development is expected to be completed between 2012-2015. Business Bay is part of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Ruler of Dubai. Business Bay will be a new ‘city’ within the city of Dubai and is being built as a commercial, residential and business cluster along a new extension of Dubai Creek extending from Ras Al Khor to Sheikh Zayed Road. Covering an area of 64,000,000 square feet (5,900,000 m2), once completed it will comprise office and residential towers set in landscaped gardens with a network of roads, pathways and canals. It will become the region’s business capital as well as a freehold city. There will be over 230 towers in the Business Bay district.   read more…

Downtown Dubai, previously known as Downtown Burj Dubai, is a large-scale, mixed-use complex under development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the home of some of the city’s most important landmarks. It covers an area of 2 square kilometres (0.77 sq mi), at an estimated cost of US$20 billion (Dh73 billion) upon completion. The complex is situated along Sheikh Zayed Road, across from Al Wasl locality on the Northwest. It is bounded to the South by Business Bay and to the Northeast by Financial Centre Road, which separates it from Zabeel 2 and Trade Center 2. It is connected to the Dubai Metro via the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station. The First Interchange, which is in its last phases of construction, will guarantee the free flow of traffic to and from the area. The Dubai Trolley is a tramway in the Downtown Dubai development which uses a fleet of double-deck heritage-style open-top trams to provide transport services and as a visitor attraction.   read more…

Developers Dubai Holding have announced their plans to build the ‘Mall of the World’ a new 48 million square foot (4.46 Millionen m²) tourist district in Dubai that will host the world’s largest mall, a new cultural district, a theme park and 20,000 hotel rooms. What’s more, the district’s 7km street network will be covered by a retractable roof during the summer months, creating the world’s first “temperature controlled city”.   read more…

Dubai Marina is a district in Dubai. Dubai Marina is an artificial canal city, built along a two mile (3 km) stretch of Persian Gulf shoreline. When the entire development is complete, it will accommodate more than 120,000 people in residential towers and villas. It is located on Interchange 5 between Jebel Ali Port and the area which hosts Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, and the American University in Dubai. The first phase of this project has been completed. Dubai Marina was inspired by the Concord Pacific Place development along False Creek in Vancouver. Upon completion, it is claimed to be the world’s largest man-made marina. The current largest man-made marina in the world is Marina del Rey in California.   read more…
